PRIDE ON KNEES QUICKLY IN LATEST CONTEST
The defending Championship Cup champion San Francisco Pride lost ground in their attempt to repeat as Sportsball champs yesterday, losing a hotly contested battle with the Boston Stranglers.
Boston, who is known for their suffocating defense, was able to keep a hold on San Francisco’s star middleback, Kelly Weber.
“We knew Kelly would try to come around through the back door,” said Strangler’s coach Alex Dombrowski, “but our defense was there to cut-off any play they threw at us”.
The loss could cost the Pride a spot in this year's Cup game, as their disappointing playoff season only seems to get worse.
“This one was especially hard to swallow,” San Francisco manager Sidney Henderson stated, “they gave us so many openings, but we just couldn’t seem to get any penetration”.
If San Francisco can sweep their upcoming series with Quebec, it may help to breathe new life into the remainder of the playoffs and salvage their cup hopes.
