Gooden released from a Florida prison Thursday after traces of human urine finally found in his most recent drug screen

GAINESVILLE, FL – Former All-Star pitcher Dwight Gooden, 41, was released from prison Thursday after finishing a sentence for violating his probation by using cocaine.

“It was a struggle,” said long time prison doctor, Alan Hooper, MD.  “Mr. Gooden takes several drug tests a month.  He was scheduled for release as soon as he produced a ‘clean’ result.”

Gooden was serving three years' probation for speeding away fromDon't ask. Don't tell. police during a drunken driving traffic stop last year when he failed a drug test and acknowledged to a probation officer that he had used cocaine.  Test results from the night were later revealed to show (unspecified) amounts cocaine, heroin, LSD, marijuana, three different typed of “speed”, methamphetamine, OxyCotin, ecstasy, Ritalin, kerosene, and small amounts of injected mayonnaise.  Gooden’s agent stressed that at no time has his client taken steroids and that they were not in his system at the time of the arrest.

Gooden has had numerous run-ins with the law, mostly related to drug problems.

In 1994, while with the Mets, Gooden was suspended for 60 days for testing positive for cocaine. He tested positive for cocaine again while on suspension and was sidelined for the 1995 season.

Gooden stopped briefly for pictures and to answer a few questions.  Among those he wished to thank for their support were; his baby’s mother, his other baby’s mother, 'Tiffiana', 'Jermaine', (later revealed to be a fellow inmate stabbed by Gooden during a fight over extra servings of the prison's Salisbury steak), 'LaTrell', 5 of the 8 members of Wu-Tang, 'Lamont', two different drug dealers, and several hookers.

In a happy coincidence, former teammate, Darryl Strawberry, was released from the same prison on April 8, 2003, after serving 11 months of an 18-month prison sentence for violating probation on cocaine possession charges.
